A great week for our Club
Our MRA team had a good start. Scoring that first goal set the tone and gave us that confidence we needed to carry the play for a good part of the first half. As we added to our lead, winning the half 3-0, I witnessed our team flourish. Winning balls, making that extra effort needed to make a play.
At the start of the second half, our opponents took some of our momentum away, were awarded a PK, and were pressing for more. At 3-1, we didnt want this to get to 3-2. We knew we had to get another and Q. Vuniqi answered that bell….ding….ding….ding….with a hat-trick!
We needed this. Well done lads!

This report written by Mark Burger from our OT2 team:
After having the previous week’s match postponed, the Wolves returned to the pitch under uncomfortably humid conditions with the early 6:15 kick off. Temperature just shy of 40 degrees with the humidex. The heat took its toll early, as the Wolves fell behind early to Gloucester Inter. The referee had graciously agreed to 2 water breaks per half, and so after 15 minutes, we regrouped and started to get into the match.
For the rest of the first half, the teams traded chances, with goalkeeper, Chris Stone equal to the challenge with a couple of well timed punches. In the second half, despite only having 3 subs to their opponents 7, the Wolves overcame the heat and humidity and began to take over the match, leading to a tying goal from Mike Owens off a corner kick scramble. The Wolves will rue some late missed chances from Liam Smithies, Pete Worthing, and Shezi Aziz.

There was a solid performance by the defenders, led by a ‘Man of the Match’ performance from Kevin Beyer. (in all his glory see below)
Not only has our OT2 team been consistent on the pitch, their game off it has been just as good.
Their post-game meals, for example, Sloppy Joe’s, sushi, and pizza, have all been on the menu. Wolves Manager, Lloyd Fernandes says they might be bragging a bit but they have every right to!
Always good to keep your Wolf Pack well fed. Well done you guys!

Down some of our key contributors, the decision was made to focus on an aggressive front line.
Scotty “Juggernaut” Grey was moved to the front line backstopped by Dave “Battleship” Bryan and Rob “La Jaune” Lafleur. Some great defensive team play in the back-end kept the Wolves in the game to the half.
Early in the second, “la Jaune” put one by the keeper with authority, followed by an amazing cross by aforemenioned Scott to Jason Leclair whose ‘Pete Rose-style’ slide pushed it into the net. Finally, Lorenzo Valenzuela came through the middle with a smoking shot just beyond half to send the Ottawa Bears back into hibernation and led us to a victory despite the excruciating heat!

Although, a game in hand we would like to congratulate our OT4 for climbing all the way up to the top of the table, sharing the first spot with another contender.

The battle of league leaders resulted in a spirited high-scoring affair.
Both sides started the game shakily exchanging goals on defensive miscues. The Wolves, Ada Kennedy scored on an own goal to open the scoring after one of his crosses deflected off a Nepean defender into the net. Nepean countered quickly on an easy tap in after a miscommunication between Wolves keeper, Resendes and defender, Matthew Crosier. The Wolves then scored their second on a beauty header by Troy Macfarlane from a picture-perfect cross by Kevin Judd. Nepean countered with a lucky goal that rolled into the net from 20 ft out eluding defender, Dino De Franco who almost it kept it out.
Oscar Arrieta closed out the scoring in the first half with a great left footed shot over the helpless keeper just under the cross bar – a shot not even Donnarumma could have saved.
The second half started with a Nepean goal from an impossible angle along the touch line which rolled in off the far post into the net. Nepean’s luck ran out after that with a beautiful shot by Q. Vuniqi that gave the Wolves a lead they would not relinquish. Nepean was then awarded a penalty that was saved in spectacular fashion by keeper Resendes. Vincent Wieneke then scored the goal of the night with a bicycle kick from a corner kick that looped over everyone and found the opposite top corner of the net giving the Wolves a 5-3 lead. Defender Salvador Herencia Carrasco then scored on an opportunistic poke from the top of the box that the Nepean keeper could only wave at. Nepean was then granted another penalty kick that was converted by Nepean scoring ace Elliott Faller. Wolves then closed out the scoring on a howitzer by scoring stud Q. Vuniqi and a beautiful tap in by Ada Kennedy capping off an impressive night of soccer by both sides.
Wolves OT6 are in first place!

‘Man of the Match’ was Salvador Herencia Carrasco who neutralized Nepean’s main scoring threat and also chipped in with some offence scoring a beauty from the top of the box.
The Wolves bid farewell to Luigi Florimo for the remainder of this season. He’s visiting family in his homeland. We will miss him!
